AVOCA is starting off 2018 with an exciting single-origin coffee that comes with a unique twist. Sourced from Hacienda La Minita in the Tarrazu region of Costa Rica, we’d like to introduce our La Minita single-origin box, or as we call it One Coffee, Three Ways. This one-of-a-kind package offers the original La Minita roast as well as La Minita Honey and Sun-Dried La Minita. Whether you’re looking to conduct your own coffee cupping or you simply want to expand your coffee horizons, you’ll taste consistent quality and nuanced differences.

We decided to choose a Tarrazu coffee because of the region’s global reputation for quality and depth of flavor. More than that, we chose Hacienda La Minita because they’re amongst the very best in the world at meshing innovative, progressive farming methods with traditional, multi-generational farming. In short, there are few other producers in the world we’d trust with this project.

The three coffees you’ll find within the variety box are naturally similar but deliciously different. No matter which direction you choose to go first, you’re guaranteed to be satisfied.

La Minita – Washed

The original La Minita coffee has flavors of nut brittle, brown sugar, & cocoa, and pairs well with buttery pastries, creamy desserts, and granola. “Washed”means that all layers around the coffee bean (skin, pump, and mucilage) are removed to skip the fermentation process and the focus is on the true character of the bean itself.

La Minita – Honey

La Minita Honey is naturally sweet, providing flavors of dried fig, honey roasted almonds, and pistachio. It pairs well with fresh fruit, cheese pastries, as well as creamy cheeses in general. The natural sweetness is arrived at by leaving the mucilage on the bean to dry, which provides slight fermentation resulting in a fruity, more rounded acidity with intense sweet flavors and a complex mouthfeel.

La Minita – Sun-Dried

Lastly, the Sun-Dried La Minita has flavors of dried cherry, candied nuts, and white chocolate, pairing well with dark chocolates and cherries. This coffee is produced by leaving the fruit on the bean as it is allowed to dry on a sunny patio with little disruption. The fruit of these efforts is a smooth, heavy-bodied brew.
