January at AVOCA

Well we are trying to knock out some major changes to the Website.  Expect a few design changes.  Some new features. Possibly a schedule of events.  And we may even get the online store going.

As for the shop we have some new things.  One of our esteemed Baristas built a pour over station for us.  We may have a new coffee table that Story has been working on for a while.

Oh and did I mention a NEW COFFEE.  It is a delicious Kenyan Peaberry.  This East African coffee is well known for its deep body, fragrant aroma, and intense (like Garold) flavor.

Our Artist had an awesome show on the 21st of January.  If you didn’t make it out come and see before it gets changed out.  Pamela Lancaster is a local artist who also teaches art at an area school.  So your kids may know her.  Her paintings are beautiful and I think she comes in when I am not watching to add new ones.  We want to thank her for her hard work.

HAPPY Thanksgiving!

It has been a great month here at AVOCA coffee.  We had some lovely art to admire from the kids at Cooks Children’s Bone Marrow Cancer Unit.  Live-Strong and Cooks Children’s both put together a show here at AVOCA for the family and friends of the patients.  We have enjoyed the art.

I wanted to post that we will be Closed Thanksgiving Day & will Re-open Saturday Morning.  Yes we will be closed Black Friday.  We do have some announcements coming up in December.  First and Foremost we look forward to the Art Styling of Andrea Gonzales.  We may even have some live art events.

The Roaster has been churning out some amazing coffee as of late.  So come see what Garold has been up to.

Thanks,
Jimmy Story

OCTOBER EVENTS

We have a ton of great events coming this month.

Our Artist this month is Bailey Mize.  You can get a preview of her work at www.mizetribe.com.  If you have been in the shop before, Bailey painted the mural on the east wall of our lounge. Her work will be up at the beginning of the month and we will be hosting a reception for her on October 28th.

OCT. 8th from 4:00-10:00 PM we will be participating in Arts Goggle.  Not only are several great bands going to play on a stage in our parking lot, but we also have the pleasure of hosting a modern dance troupe! As of now two artists have confirmed that they will show their art at AVOCA during Arts Goggle. Keep checking the blog for updates on events.

On October 23rd, Fort Worth South Inc. is hosting Open Streets; a festive event celebrating fitness, community, and NO CARS! Magnolia Ave. will be shut down doing this event. There will be live music, food trucks, and free fitness classes! Join us during Open Streets for a great cup of coffee or just to say “hi”.

Keep an eye out for other up coming events such as “Zombie pageant and pub crawl” and our “Day of the Dead celebration.”

AVOCA coffee to Host a contest

As shop owners you become faced with so many task.  When you open you are expected to have many things taken care.  Some times those items have to prioritized like a triage of a M*A*S*H* unit.  Often you have to use some sort of temporary means.  Not to forget the definition of temporary is different for each person.  Well we have been open for six months now and we are finally starting to go back and look at a few of these temporary items.

One of these items we would like your help on.  If you fancy yourself a designer, an artist, or someone who loves coffee and wants to win some coffee.  Then we have a contest for you. We need help designing our MENU BOARD.
Contact Jimmy Story for details.  You can contact him through info@avocacoffee.com or call the Store’s phone number and ask for or leave a message for Story.  Dead line for entries is September 20th.  Cost of project will be a judging factor (in other words yes we have a budget).  And ability to help produce the final project is also a plus.

Thanks,
Jimmy Story
